How to clean kitchen sink drains easily?
Kitchen sink drains work for us every day, the food leftovers, soap scum, and grease build-ups can lead to clogs, bad odors, and the spreading of bacteria. That doesn’t sound too good. Therefore, cleaning kitchen sink drains should be also on your cleaning checklist often.

If you haven’t cleaned your sink drain in a while, and want to know how to easily deodorize your drain, these methods will help you.

Cleaning kitchen sink drains with hot water and dish soap

As we all know, kitchen sink drains are constantly bombarded with food leftovers, grease, and oil. Therefore, the best way to prevent a clog is to keep drains free of such build-ups. Follow these tips to make it easy:

1.Bring some water to the boil with a kettle. For PVC and plastic pipes, the water should be below boiling temperature to avoid any damages to the piping.

2.Stir some cleanser essence into the hot water.

3.Carefully pour the hot soapy water down your drain.

4.Then let the water sit for 5-10 minutes.

5.After a few minutes have passed, run some cold water down the drain to loosen up any leftover build-ups.

6.Pour some hot water down the drain to completely remove any leftovers.

For increased cleaning power, you can pour a cup of salt in your drain before flushing it with hot water.

Deodorizing a sink drain with baking soda and vinegar

Nobody wants their kitchens to smell like rubbish or old food, so it’s important to clean and deodorize your sink drain regularly. Don’t worry, that’s not a hard task at all!

1.Pour one cup of baking soda with two cups of white vinegar down the drain, the mixture should begin fizzing up.

2.Let the solution sit and work its magic for 15 minutes.

3.Heat up some water in the kettle and pour it down the drain to rinse it.

Finally, all the nasty odors will have disappeared from your kitchen sink.

Use a Drain Snake(Plumbers' Snake)

If the above methods can’t succeed, you’ll need a drain snake to get rid of the clog.

This tool consists of a coiled spiral snake with a handle at one end. The coil is used to reach down into the drain, and then the handle is cranked, dislodging, and pulling up the clog. Some drain snakes are manually cranked, while others are electrically powered for extra strength.

If you don't have a drain snake, you can also use a wire coat hanger to fish out the clog. This is a cheap, easy method that almost anyone can do—all you need is a wire coat hanger and a pair of pliers.

1.Unwind the wire looped around the neck of the hook and straighten out the hanger as much as possible. If necessary, you can use pliers to do this.

2.Use the pliers to create a small, one-inch-long hook at one end of the wire. Make sure it is narrow enough to fit through the drain.

3.Insert the hooked end of the wire down the drain and gently wiggle it around a bit, trying to find the clog. Don’t push down roughly, avoiding pushing the blockage further down the pipe.

4.If you feel anything at the end of the wire, pull it up and out of the drain. You might not be able to remove the whole clog all at once, so try again to see if anything else comes up. Turn on the hot water from your faucet to make sure you got everything.

How to keep a kitchen sink drain clean

The best way to keep your kitchen sink clean and smelling fresh is to maintain it regularly. Flush it with hot water at least once a week.

Avoid putting fat, oil, grease, and any food leftovers down the drain to prevent it from clogging. If your dishes and cookware are greasy, wipe them with some paper towels before washing them in the sink.

Try not to use traditional soap in your kitchen sink to avoid the build-up of soap scum.
