Drain Cleaning Machine Safety Tips

Machine Safety

l  Read the manual – Do not use the draincleaning machine unless you have read the operating instructions.

l  Check the pipe diameter, its length, andthe obstructions- choose the proper cable and cutters for the situation-toosmall will be ineffective, too large will be difficult to guide the cable

l  Always inspect the machine for damagebefore using and check the cable for kinks

l  Clear any standing water in the work area -make the area as dry as possible to help prevent electrocution

l  Examine the power cord and plug for damage

l  Examine the body of the machine and inspectfor damage or defects.


Operator Protection

l  DO always wear gloves when using thismachine. Make sure not grasp turning cable with rags or gloves that are loosefitting. Loose fitting gloves or rags can become wrapped around or lodgedin-between cable causing serious injury.

l  DO be extremely careful when cleaningdrains where chemical cleaning compounds have been previously used.


Operational Safety

l  Don't touch your face - eyes, ears, nose,mouth - and always wash up with soap and water for at least 30 seconds afterusing the machine

l  Place the machine no more than 2-3 feetfrom drain opening to prevent cable looping.

l  Only use reverse when the cable is caught -the cable can flip or come out of the drum causing injury.

l  Don't force the cable through a blockage -let the cutter do the work - forcing the cable can cause damage/injury

l  Don't overstress the cable - this leads totwisting, kinking, breaking

l  Most units are designed for 1 personoperation - the same person should control the cable and operate the pedal

l  When working on a fixture drain, you couldhave a pipe inspection camera to check the clogs, then choose the right cuttingtools
